Getting your cello practice area set up exactly how you want it can really help to make practicing more enticing and fun. If you’re always looking for a pencil or having to constantly collect what you need for a practice session, it can make it that much harder to take the first step to practicing. You’ve got your cello chair, you’ve got your music stand, so now let’s talk about a few music stand accessories that can help make your practice more streamlined.

Stand Shelf – If you need a little extra storage space for pencils, rosin, tuner, bow, or M&M’s (we won’t tell anyone), and you already own a metal stand that does not have an extra accessory shelf, you can clip this shelf onto the bottom of your stand. Of course, you’ll want to be sure it’s compatible with your stand type. Click Here for Pricing and More Information.
Pencil Holder – A magnet on the pencil keeps it attached to the stand. Out of the way but always close by. Click Here for Pricing and More Information.
Pencils – You can never have too many pencils. Have you ever used colored pencils on your music? Using at least a red pencil to mark something you really need to stand out is helpful, but you could even use a different color for every category: highlight dynamics in blue, bowing in green, that one tricky rhythm in orange, etc.
Music Stand Feet Floor Protectors – Do you have a nice black music stand like a Manhasset, but also have nice wood floors that you’re worried about scratching? You can buy rubber feet to put on the stand to protect your floors. If you’re moving the stand back and forth to write things in your part you won’t have to worry about leaving a long scratch on your floor. Click Here for Pricing and More Information.
Stand Light – We’ll be doing a review of stand lights soon, but either this one or this one are a good place to start, depending on what you’re looking for. Whether you just need better light at home while you’re practicing or you need a light for a concert or rehearsal, having a stand light can really help to make your playing more enjoyable. Straining to see your music is not fun!
Stand Extenders – If you’re working on a piece that is several pages long and they keep falling off your stand, you could use some stand extenders. You would really only need these occasionally, like if you were playing a piece that was long and had basically no rests in which to turn a page, but it does happen! Scarf – Take some inspiration from Steven Tyler and beautify your stand! 🙂
